Kathleen Maher joined the MIC EDII team in September 2023 as the inaugural MIC Sexual Violence and Harassment Prevention and Response Manager. Prior to this Kathleen work in the domestic violence sector and brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to the Framework for Consent at MIC and to other higher education institutions in Ireland. Kathleen is passionate about the area of gender-based violence and is particularly driven to ending sexual violence and harassment.
Kathleen aims to successfully embed the Consent Framework at Mary Immaculate College that underpins a whole institutional approach with the staff and student community. On an annual basis she facilitates consent student-facing workshops as well as online training, and Kathleen is available to meet any staff/students to offer additional workshops/support and training.
Kathleen has successfully attained higher Education Authority (HEA) Ending Sexual Violence and Harassment (ESVH) funding and currently leads on two project that focus on:
a) MIC Model of Disclosure Training
b) Exploring the views of neurodivergent students and including students as co-researchers in relation to education initiatives around consent and sexual violence in third level.
It is anticipated that these projects will inform the higher education sector in terms of advancing ESVH.
In addition, Kathleen has been appointed to the HEA ESVH Advisory Committee to represent the smaller Colleges in Ireland, here her role is to represent the views of the smaller colleges in the Irish context and in relation to sexual violence and harassment. Kathleen is a member of the ESVH HEA network that meets regularity to inform and enhance the effective implementation of the national policy framework on Ending Sexual Violence and Harassment (ESVH) in Higher Education Institutions in Ireland.
Kathleen has undertaken the University of Galway CPD Module on CPD module Consent, Sexual Violence and Harassment: Practitioner Skills and Practice and the Advance HE Aurora Women’s Leadership programme for higher education professionals. Kathleen is also a graduate of Maynooth University with a Post-Graduate Higher Diploma in Youth and Community Work.
