WATCH: Women in Education: Afghanistan and Ireland
“A society without women is not complete”
That was the message from a powerful day of discussions at MIC around the treatment of women in Afghanistan and their access to basic rights including work and education under the Taliban.
Since the Taliban takeover in August 2021, these rights have been stripped from female citizens.
On International Women's Day, the 'Women in Education: Afghanistan and Ireland' conference at MIC heard from Afghan women, academics, journalists and government employees about the plight women face under the Taliban and what the international community might be able to do to help.
The conference was organised by MA in Media Studies student and Afghan native Nasratullah Taban in cooperation with MICs' Office for EDII, International Office and the Media & Communications Department.
