LEAD are delighted to announce the successful launch of MIC’s Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Community of Practice (CoP), held on 3 April 2023.

Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Professor Niamh Hourigan, launched this exciting initiative, aimed at promoting the use of UDL principles and strategies within MIC. Dr Gwen Moore, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Jean Reale, Assistant Professor of Academic Practice, also spoke at the event. They discussed the importance of incorporating UDL into our teaching practices at MIC and the benefits of being part of the UDL Community of Practice. They also took the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of 67 staff members who have completed the national UDL digital badge facilitated by LEAD.

It was great to see so many faces at the event, both in person and online.

The establishment of the UDL Community of Practice is embedded within the MIC Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement (SATLE) 2022-23 funded project, which is designed to support and drive teaching and learning innovation in Irish Higher Education.

The UDL Community of Practice will provide a teaching and learning space for MIC staff and Postgraduate students to share ideas on inclusive practices, generate research in the area of UDL, and create resources to assist with our teaching and learning. The group will meet monthly, with the first session being held at 1pm on Wednesday the 26th of April.
