Healthy Campus
About
MIC is the first third-level institution in Ireland to be designated a ‘Health Promoting College’ and has had this service in place since 1996.
Healthy Campus MIC aims to support the health and wellbeing of all members of the college community through policy development, the provision of programmes and activities and the implementation of specific health and wellbeing strategies.
We provide many resources on health to both staff and students, and the office holds a wide selection of health and well-being material. Any member of the college community is welcome to drop into the office for advice and information on health-related topics, such as:
- Healthy Eating
- Physical Activity
- Mental Health
- Smoking Cessation
- Sexual Health and Contraception
- Alcohol and Other Drugs
The Healthy Campus Office is the contact point for the Smarter Travel Campus national initiative.
We run different awareness days, programmes and workshops during the year. We provide confidential one-to-one support and advice on lifestyle change in the form of brief interventions. We can also refer you to relevant services in the community.
Examples of awareness days, programmes, and workshops include:
- SafeTalk and ASIST training (suicide awareness and prevention workshops)
- Coping with exam pressure workshops
- Skincare workshops
- Awareness days/ weeks on a variety of health topics
- Mindfulness meditation classes
- Step and bicycle challenges
- Cookery demonstrations
The Healthy Campus Office is located in G06, situated on the ground floor of the Foundation Building, near the canteen entrance.

Togetherall is a safe, online community where people support each other anonymously to improve mental health and wellbeing. It is free and available 24/7. Access is available to all students at publicly funded higher education institutes across Ireland.
SpunOut is Ireland’s youth information website created by young people, for young people. It provides information on a range of different topics broken down into sections; education, employment, health, life and opinion.
HSE List of Services provides a full list of all services that the HSE offers in Ireland such as schemes, pharmacies, dentists, mental health care, sexual health, and disability services to name a few.

E-PUB
E-PUB is an online anonymous alcohol intervention programme, which was developed to encourage third-level students to reflect on their drinking habits. It is a personalised brief self-assessment programme. The programme is self-guided and provides quick, confidential feedback. The programme is designed to give the user personalised feedback that is designed to support and motivate individuals to adapt and, if necessary, to reduce their consumption patterns.
Active Travel
MIC is a partner in the National Smarter Travel Campus initiative.
Watch out for news about active travel facilities on campus and team step and cycling challenges during the year.
There is a Smarter Travel noticeboard in Information Alley, located close to the Health Promotion noticeboard.
