Beginning with a dedicated Professional Masters in Education (PME) virtual session on Tuesday, 26 March (6-6.45pm) Dr Margaret Nohilly, Programme Coordinator, will answer all your questions about this two-year, full-time Level 9 professional teacher education programme designed to qualify graduates as primary teachers. Separately, on Wednesday, 10 April (6pm-6.45pm) experts from MIC’s Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education and Research & Graduate School will host a session on the College’s wide range of taught and research-based postgraduate programmes, fees, funding supports and application processes.
In advance of the live events, there are a range of Explainer Videos that can be watched at a time that suits, covering programme-specific information on the over 30 taught and research-based programmes in the Liberal Arts and Education on offer.

Recent additions to the College’s suite of programmes for student intake in September 2024 include a new Masters of Education in Education for Human Rights and Equality and the MA sa Ghaeilge (Ceannaireacht i dTeanga, Cultúr agus Pobal).
The Masters of Education in Education for Human Rights and Equality is an innovative and timely programme, offered on a fully online basis over two years by MIC Thurles, that aims to address the challenges to human rights and equality arising from globalisation, increasing societal diversity, and cultural changes. While primarily aimed at educators, applications are welcome from all those nationally and internationally who have an interest in promoting and protecting the dignity and worth of all individuals.
The MA sa Ghaeilge (Ceannaireacht i dTeanga, Cultúr agus Pobal) is an innovative one-year programme aimed at all those interested in developing their knowledge of Léann agus Litríocht na Gaeilge, along with their leadership skills. Programme participants will have the opportunity to develop an in-depth knowledge of the core areas of Irish language literature, Cultural Studies and Irish Language Arts, Sociolinguistics and Language Planning, with an optional element as well. This disciplinary knowledge will be complemented by the provision of key professional and applied skills. In addition to a robust academic programme, the MA sa Ghaeilge (Ceannaireacht i dTeanga, Cultúr agus Pobal) will develop participants’ analytic, planning, communicative and interpersonal skills in line with their evolving professional and communication needs.
Resources available to MIC postgraduate students include financial supports, peer-to-peer interaction, coaching, and mentoring. Students can also participate in transferrable skills training, which covers research skills, research management practices, personal effectiveness, communication skills, networking and collaboration strategies, teamwork, and career planning and management.
In order to help meet the real-world needs and costs of postgraduate research students, MIC offers funding support of €800,000 per annum through its Departmental Assistantships Scheme and merit-based Research Masters and Doctoral Awards Scheme. Students also have access to the purpose-designed graduate research and study facility on the John Henry Newman Campus.
